1939 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

This 1939 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mint mark, WRPM-002, is cataloged by Wexler (doubleddie.com) as 1939-S 1¢ WRPM-002. The mint mark is S/S North. Stage A obverse: north-south scratches west of the shoulder, behind the date, and through and left of the date, plus gouges at the letters of IGWT. By Stage B only weaker IGWT gouges remain, and Stage C adds a gouge running ENE from the N of IN to the rim. Reverse Stage A: a crack from the C of CENT through the O of ONE and the crossbar of the L in PLURIBUS, light cracks on both wheat ears, and a gouge left of the crossbar of the T in CENT; the cracks are heavier on Stage B and show chips on the right wheat ear by Stage C.
