1939 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1939 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a close spread north on IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, a scratch heads west off the 3 in the date, from its upper left; another starts at the lower right of the L's upright in LIBERTY and runs ESE to the L's right tip; and a third heads SE off the B in LIBERTY, from its lower right. On the reverse, a scratch crosses the upper TAT of STATES, a scratch links the lower S in PLURIBUS with the upper left wing of the eagle, and cracks run down both wings. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The photos were taken for the Wexler Files by Billy G. Crawford.
