1939 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1939 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling spreads north on IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, two heavy gouges leave the Y in LIBERTY: one heads WNW from its top right, and the other runs NW from its top left out to the rim. A scratch heads ENE from the lower right of the 1 in the date. On the reverse, a crack crosses the upper IBUS of PLURIBUS and reaches the eagle's left wing at its top, and another crack runs down the right wing. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The photos were taken for the Wexler Files by Billy G. Crawford.
