1939 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1939 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1939 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread shows on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the ribbon's bottom and the queue. On the obverse, a scratch runs from the lower E of LIBERTY east to the R; a second leaves the T in LIBERTY at its top left and heads WNW to the rim; and a WNW/ESE scratch lies in the gap separating the R and T at their bottoms. Across the forehead top runs a W/E crack that continues into the hair, and a short crack sits in the hair just over the forehead. On the reverse, a crack heads east through the upper RIBUS of PLURIBUS, then follows the eagle's left wing downward, ending at the lower right of AMERICA's second A. Another crack runs from the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM down through the eagle's right wing, a crack crosses the lower leaves and branches, and a short crack leaves the back of the eagle's head heading east.
