Description
The 1939 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1939 Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Monticello, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Die scratch across top of Y of LIBERTY; series of die scratches on front of Jefferson's collar. Reverse: Die scratch above U of PLURIBUS; die scratch in lower right corner of right arch.
