1937-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Holding the primary catalog position for the 1937-D date, this VarietyVista-documented Buffalo Nickel is notable for documenting a reverse die change mid-production with the obverse RPM die continuing in service. Die markers cover two pairings: UVC-196 / DMR-002 for Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed) and Stage B with a light die crack through FIVE CENTS at MDS and obverse at LDS; then UVC-205 / DMR-011 for Stage C with a heavy die crack through FIVE CENTS at LDS and obverse die changed to EDS. The crack through FIVE CENTS progressing from light to heavy documents structural failure in the denomination text. Designed by James Earle Fraser, struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1937-D was the penultimate Denver Mint Buffalo Nickel before the series ended in 1938.
