1936-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

The 1936-S Buffalo Nickel RPM-001 carries the Cherrypickers' Guide designation FS-501 alongside its VarietyVista attribution under die codes UVC-185 and DMR-002. Buffalo Nickels were struck from 1913 through 1938 in 75% copper and 25% nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser. The repunch is an S/S South shift — the mintmark was first punched north, then reapplied in the correct position, leaving the earlier S displaced southward and visible below the primary mintmark. Three die stages are documented: Stage A is an early die state (unconfirmed). Stage B at mid-die state shows obverse and reverse advancing together.
