1936-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-009
Error
Description
A D/D North variety from the penultimate year of the Buffalo Nickel series, RPM-009 was documented by VarietyVista and awaits specimen submission for new color, high-magnification digital photographs. Die markers UVC-179 / DMR-010: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS. The northward D displacement indicates the initial punch was placed slightly south of the intended position. James Earle Fraser's Buffalo Nickel was struck at the Denver Mint in 1936, composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm. The 1936-D mintage of approximately 24.8 million pieces was the penultimate Denver production before the series ended in 1938.
