1936-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

Notable for its triple-punched mintmark showing D/D/D displaced to the south and east, this 1936 Denver Mint Buffalo Nickel is cataloged as UVC-176 with die marriage DMR-007. The triple punching indicates the mintmark punch was applied at least three times with positional shifts, producing two secondary D impressions alongside the final placement. The combined south and east displacement creates a distinctive spread pattern that differentiates RPM-006 from other varieties in the extensive 1936-D repunched mintmark catalog. Triple-punched mintmarks are less common than standard double-punched examples, as they document three or more separate punch applications rather than just two. Denver struck 24.81 million Buffalo Nickels in 1936, and the substantial die consumption required for that output produced a wealth of mintmark varieties. The 75% copper, 25% nickel alloy and Fraser's Type 2 design with the bison on a recessed plain were consistent throughout the series.
