1935 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1935 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1935 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is spread to the north on IN GOD WE TRUST, and LIBERTY shows slight doubling spread toward the center. On the obverse, a crack runs from the head NW to the rim, passing through the lower left of the B in LIBERTY. Another crack crosses the base of the bust and bends south and meets the rim in the gap between the 1 and 9, and a scratch heads ENE off the 1 of the date, from its upper right. On the reverse, the tops of the E and D in UNITED are joined by a short gouge, and many N/S scratches cross the lower part of both wings. Kevin Flynn submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 3-O-V. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
