1935 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001
ErrorDescription
Displaying a spread towards the center on QUARTER DOLLAR, both branch stems, and slightly on USA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, this 1935 Washington Quarter WDDR-001 distributes its hub doubling across multiple reverse design elements. The inward-directed displacement is consistent with a hubbing event where the secondary impression shifted toward the die's center, affecting the denomination, the heraldic branches, and portions of the upper inscriptions. Detailed die markers support attribution on both sides. On the obverse, a die scratch runs north-south through the N of IN, and numerous die scratches radiate west-southwest from the bottom of the L in LIBERTY — a cluster of directional scratches that creates a distinctive visual fingerprint. The reverse carries a short die gouge inside the upper U in UNITED. This three-zone marker system across two sides provides reliable identification independent of the doubling itself. The 1935 Washington Quarter was struck in 90% silver during the early years of the series, which debuted in 1932. Attributed by the Wexler Team with the variety designation 1935 25 cents WDDR-001, this Philadelphia Mint quarter rewards examination of QUARTER DOLLAR and both branch stems for the center-directed spread, confirmed by the obverse die scratches and the reverse U gouge.
