1934 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004
Error
Description
Class II spread on LIBERTY distinguishes WDDO-004 on the 1934 Philadelphia Mint Washington Quarter, where hub displacement toward the center produced visible separation on the motto letters. Struck in the 90% silver, 10% copper composition standard for all Washington Quarters from the series' 1932 debut through 1964, this variety belongs to the Medium Motto subtype of the 1934 issue, distinguished from the Heavy Motto variety by the weight of the IN GOD WE TRUST lettering. Cross-referenced as CONECA 7-O-II, this variety holds the seventh obverse doubled die position of Class II type in the CONECA census for the date. The 1934 Washington Quarter represents early production of John Flanagan's design, introduced just two years earlier to commemorate the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1934 25¢ WDDO-004, the Class II center-directed spread on LIBERTY provides the primary pickup point on this pre-war silver quarter variety.
