1934 Washington Quarter - Medium Motto - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1934 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1934 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. The spread is a close Class I in the counterclockwise (CCW) direction, showing on LIBERTY, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. Wexler records two stages of each die. Obverse Stage A has a gouge over the G in GOD, toward its right side, a NW/SE scratch under the E in WE, and a scratch inside the R in TRUST. By Obverse Stage B the die is heavily abraded, the Stage A scratches can no longer be seen, and a horizontal crack crosses the upper hair. Reverse Stage A shows a crack running from the upper leaf over the second L in DOLLAR to the upper left of the R in DOLLAR. Reverse Stage B has a crack between the leaves over the UA in QUARTER and a crack along the outside of the eagle's right wing. Pat Russell submitted Stage A and Jim Lafferty submitted Stage B. CONECA lists it as 3-O-I.
