Description

Medium spread across IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the ribbon, and LIBERTY gives the 1934 Washington Quarter DDO-004 one of the more comprehensive doubling signatures among early Washington Quarter varieties. Attributed by VarietyVista as UVC-013 with die marriage DMR-008, this variety progresses through EDS (unconfirmed), MDS on both dies, and LDS confirmed for both obverse and reverse. The obverse is listed as ODV-002, the Medium Motto variant — a recognized Washington Quarter die variety distinguished from the Light Motto and Heavy Motto variants by the weight of the IN GOD WE TRUST lettering. The 1934 date is only the second year of Flanagan's Washington Quarter design, and varieties from this early period document the Mint's initial die production for what would become one of the longest-running coin designs in American history. The ribbon doubling adds a design-element indicator beyond the more commonly reported lettering spread.
