Description
Obverse Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: The obverse is also a doubled die that is listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1927-D 1¢ WDDO-002. An extra eyelid shows very widely separated SE of the primary eyelid. Two parallel die scratches run west to east across the upper forehead. Some lesser die scratches can be found in the hair above the forehead. Obverse Stage B: The secondary eyelid and the RPM are both weaker. Abrasion shows between the letters of IGWT and the rim. Obverse Stage C: The secondary eyelid is now very weak. The lower part of the secondary mintmark is nearly abraded away. Abrasion doubling shows above the letters of IGWT. Reverse Stage A: A die gouge (dot) shows in the field below the left side of the C in CENT. A short die scratch runs NE from the upper left N in UNITED. A short die scratch protrudes SW from the lower left leg of the R in AMERICA. Reverse Stage B: Light north to south abrasion lines show above UNUM. Reverse Stage C: Very heavy north to south abrasion lines show above and between the letters of UNUM.
