Description

Credited to David Close, the 1925-P VAM-1K Peace Dollar stands out for triple clash spikes rising from the eagle's right shoulder — created when three successive clashes transferred Liberty's head and neck contour onto the reverse die. Cataloged as II 1 with reverse B2a, the left two spikes sit closely spaced adjacent to the neck transfer, with the rightmost spike at the shoulder edge. The die was polished to remove clash evidence, but only a short stub of the right spike remains. Rated I-2 R-6, placing this at the scarce end of the Peace Dollar rarity scale where surviving examples are notably limited. Triple clashes are considerably less common than single or double clashes because they require three separate instances of the dies striking without a planchet — compounding an already uncommon event.
