1904 (O) Morgan Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1904-O WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1904-O Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Class II doubling, spread toward the center, appears as a double profile on the nose, lips and chin and the hair under LIBERTY, and also on the hair details over the date and the first 3 stars on the right. On the obverse, the date's 1 and 9 are repunched, the extra 1 showing below its upper left serif and the extra 9 on the bottom left of its upper loop. A scratch sits at the hairline at the front of the forehead. The reverse is WDDR-001, with a crack running rim to rim through the eagle's upper right wing tip, vertical scratches through IN's I, and tooling marks around TRUST's T and R. Joe Groff submitted the variety. Its VAM number is 26.
