About This Coin
The 1904 Morgan Dollar is a United States dollar from the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series. In 1904, coins were struck at the New Orleans, San Francisco, and Philadelphia Mints with a combined mintage of 8.8 million. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. The last year of the original Morgan Dollar run, which ended once the silver bought under the Sherman Act had all been coined; the series was revived for one year in 1921 under the Pittman Act. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Across its variants, estimated values range from $87 to $9.4K depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $52K in PR67CA grade at Heritage Auctions.
