Description

A TOP 100 MORGAN VAM, the 1886-P Morgan Dollar VAM-1A1 is one of the most sought-after and widely recognized varieties in the entire Morgan Dollar series. The classification is VAM-1A1 III2 1 · C3a: Line in 6, Clashed Obverse In and st. The obverse is a clashed die with two distinct transferred reverse elements: a faint incuse I and a nearly full incuse n from the word "In" of the reverse motto appear next to Liberty's neck, and a faint partial incuse st from "Trust" appears in the right hair vee. The combination of the Line in 6 feature and the clearly clashed obverse impressions makes VAM-1A1 highly identifiable and actively sought across all grade levels. Discovered by Mark Kimpton in January 2005, VAM-1A1 occupies the coveted Top 100 position that collectors track as a set-completion milestone within the Morgan Dollar variety hobby. Struck in 90% silver, the 1886-P Morgan Dollar was produced in large quantities at the Philadelphia Mint under George T. Morgan's iconic design.
