1886 Morgan Dollar - Repunched Date WRPD-001

Description

1886 WRPD-001 is a repunched date on the 1886 Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler writes it as 1886/18: the 18 is repunched, showing as a strong bar beneath the 1's top serif and a visible line of separation inside the bottom of the first 8. The obverse is also WDDO-001, with a very minor split at the eyelid's point and an earlobe thickened to the south. Light cracks run from the neck's bottom and from the throat east through the hair behind the head, and the ear has a gouge inside it. On the reverse, the second leaf has a light crack along its bottom, and the left side of the knot is broken. John A. Wexler submitted the variety, with photos by Brian Allen. Its VAM number is #4.
