1879-S VAM-9 PAF, Doubled 9, Engraved Wing Feather From 1878 S, 9 Upper TF Discovered by Leonard Hinckley, February 1974. Revised 2010, 2017 This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100 VAM variety. ''Die'' ''markers''- Diagonal polishing line at 2nd lower right hair junction, pitting in LIBERTY. Light pitting on Liberty head on later die states. Slightly later die state has addition slight die polishing lines added. '''Reverse B2e –''' Partial broken r in Trust. Feather engraved between eagle’s right wing and leg. ''Die'' ''marker''- Short horizontal polishing line at top left of engraved feather area of eagle’s right wing. Two small vertical tail feathers engraved at very left side of upper tail feathers that engraver mistakenly added to normally blank area to create 9 upper tail feathers. Normal upper tail feathers next to two added ones slightly strengthened on right side as added ridge. Middle over polished outer feathers of eagle's left wing have been strengthened by engraving. Same die as for 1879 S VAM-77 and for 1878-S VAMs 45/68. Slightly later die states has additional light die polishing lines added and light die cracks starting at ITED. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments:''' # This obverse die was used on [[1879-S VAM-9, [[1879-S VAM-32, and [[1879-S VAM-35. # [[1879-S VAM-9, [[1879-S VAM-35, [[1879-S VAM-39, [[1879-S VAM-42 all have a partially broken serif in the R of TRUST.
