Description
1878-S WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1878-S Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Every letter of USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA) and ONE DOLLAR shows moderate Class II doubling toward the rim. The outer edges of the left olive leaves are doubled, and the outer edge of the right wing feathers is very lightly doubled. The obverse is WDDO-005: the fourth star at right has a broken left point, and the date's 7 has a strong scratch along its right side. On the reverse, the S mint mark has a split upper right serif, and in the left olive branch a leaf of the third group has been abraded away. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
