=1878-P VAM-7 Spiked A= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. 7 I2 6 - A1d (Spike A) (189) Obverse I2 6- Doubled left stars, E, PLURIBUS U, and 187. A slight rotation of hub and die between blows. Reverse A1d- Die shows evidence of wearing out, with a scratch in the die causing spikes at the side of A in STATES and a filled center E in ONE. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This is an 8 Tailfeather Morgan variety. This variety shares the reverse A1d with VAMs 1878-P VAM-6, 1878-P VAM-7, 1878-P VAM-14.5, 1878-P VAM-14.8 & 1878-P VAM-14.19. VAMs 6 and 7 are relatively common, but the other three are major rarities. # 1878-P VAM-7 does come lightly clashed & a very nicely doubled neck line.
