Description
1878 WDDR-006 is a doubled die reverse on the 1878 8 Tail Feathers Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. There are extra tail feathers in the gaps from the 2nd to the 3rd, the 3rd to the 4th and the 4th to the 5th, plus extra feathers beneath the 5th and 6th. The bottom of the branch in the eagle's claws is doubled, with traces in the leaves. UNITED and AMERICA show a very slight spread toward the center, and doubling also shows inside the bow's loop and left of the bottoms of the bow loops. The obverse is WDDO-006, with UNUM's N broken at its lower left and its M at its lower right. On the reverse, die cracks link most of the upper USA letters and the lower parts of ONE DOLLAR, a V-shaped scratch sits between the leaves and ICA of AMERICA, and DOLLAR's D is broken at the bottom. Istvan Henrik submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 23-R-III, and its VAM number is 40.
