Description
1878 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1878 8 Tail Feathers Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Doubling shows on USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), IN GOD WE TRUST, the eagle's beak and right wing feathers, the left star and the wreath; the right star and ONE DOLLAR show it slightly. The obverse is WDDO-001, with a gouge just under the wheat kernels above LI of LIBERTY. On the reverse, parallel scratches cross the O of ONE and continue left of it, and scratches lie between the olive branch leaves and the wreath's left side. Gary Alender submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 9-R-III, and its VAM number is 18.
