1878-P VAM-84A Washed Out L, Broken D, Clashed Obverse n, Reverse E & M Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, May 2003. Revision September 2004 by Leroy Van Allen This coin is a Super CD Morgan Vam. This coin is a Top 30 1878 Variety 84A(revised) II/I 12 · B1e (Washed Out L, Broken D, Clashed Obverse n, Reverse E & M) (180) Obverse II/I 12– Strongly clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty's neck. Reverse B1e– Clashed die with partial raised E from obverse LIBERTY below eagle’s tail feathers on left side. Vertical bar and middle serif of E show. Also has raised designer’s initial M from obverse showing above d of God. Late die states show die chip at top of right wreath. Date position (DPIS): In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. Notes: Obverse Die Markers –There is a crack that starts in the denticles, passes under the 2nd right star and runs into the bottom, left tip of the 3rd star, could reach to the right tip of the 4th star in ULDS state. The VAM-84A has the same attributions as the 1878-P VAM-84 w/ the additions of clashing on the obverse and reverse & a die crack between the second & third star. Obverse II/I 12– Strongly clashed die w/ partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty's neck. Left stars, E PLUR & LIBERTY will have some doubling as well. Some die-poop above U_R & between seventh left star & rim.
