Description
1878 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1878 Morgan dollar (Reverse of 1878), cataloged by the Wexler team. Close doubling shows along the right side of LIBERTY's letters. The eyebrow is doubled and the eyelid slightly doubled on its underside, and the letters of E PLURIBUS are very slightly doubled on their right side. On the obverse, the fourth star on the right has a broken point, and the nostril is over-polished, its bottom missing. The reverse is WDDR-003. Two scratches run SE from the lower right side of the wreath through DOLLAR's second L, a diagonal scratch lies above the leaves right of the olive branch's end, and a light crack crosses the upper parts of TAT in STATES. Joe Groff submitted the variety. Its VAM number is 190.
