Description
1878 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1878 8 Tail Feathers Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The eagle's beak is strongly doubled, as are the arrowheads and the upper two shafts. USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), ONE DOLLAR, both stars, the wreath and the olive leaves show close doubling. The obverse is WDDO-001, with a gouge just under the wheat kernels above LI of LIBERTY. On the reverse, a scratch runs from the left wreath through the left star to the rim. Gary Alender submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 10-R-III, and its VAM number is 19.
