Description

1878 WDDR-007 is a doubled die reverse on the 1878 8 Tail Feathers Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A spread toward the center shows on UNITED STATES OF, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR and the ribbon, on the wreath's left half, and on the first two leaf clusters right of the ribbon. The obverse is WDDO-004. North of the second cotton boll, under the bonnet's curl, is a gouge. Clash marks run from the back of the head to the right of the bonnet ribbon, and another clash mark runs SW from the upper front of the neck. A curving scratch on the lower back of the bonnet lies right of the second cotton boll. On the reverse, die clash marks lie between the upper left wreath and the wing feathers and between the upper right wreath and the wing feathers, and another runs south from the lower right of the N in IN to the wing. Just above the point where the branch and arrows cross, between the eagle's talons, are two short scratches. Istvan Henrik submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 31-R-III, and its VAM number is 14.1.
