Coin Series
Small Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1854-1856

About This Series

The Type 2 gold dollar, featuring a larger female head wearing a feathered headdress. James B. Longacre increased the diameter to 15mm but the design proved difficult to strike in high relief, resulting in many weakly detailed specimens. Produced for only three years at Philadelphia, Dahlonega, and Charlotte. The 1855-D is a significant rarity.
