Commemorative medals celebrating British Admiral Edward Vernon's 1739 capture of Portobelo, Panama, during the War of Jenkins' Ear. Over 300 varieties exist in copper and brass, making this one of the largest series of 18th-century commemorative medals. These were widely distributed in the American colonies and are considered part of the colonial American numismatic tradition.
