Description

Cross-referenced as VarietyVista VDDR-002 under Wexler Variety ID 2022-P 25¢ MA WDDR-003, this Philadelphia Maya Angelou quarter carries a doubled die reverse with doubling visible on the right side of Maya Angelou's earring. Submitted by George W. Powell, Jr., the obverse is also designated WMDO-001, featuring a die chip on the lower inside corner of the first 2 in the date, a chip on the bridge of the nose, north-south die cracks on the back of the mouth, and a die gouge between WE and the rim. The reverse is designated WMDR-001 and shows east-west die scratches right of the designer's initials ESD, a small gouge between the bottoms of T and A in STATES, multiple small gouges above the Q in QUARTER, a small gouge right of the top of U in QUARTER, and small gouges above AR in DOLLAR. The Maya Angelou quarter inaugurated the American Women Quarter Program in 2022, and early doubled die discoveries on these modern issues attract collectors tracking varieties as they first enter circulation.
