2021 VDDR VDDR-007
Error
Description
Seventh in VarietyVista's catalog of doubled die reverses for the 2021 America the Beautiful Quarter, VDDR-007 shares the same general diagnostic as VDDR-006 — a light northeast spread appearing as an extra bottom to Washington's cuff — but was produced by a different die pair, meaning collectors can distinguish the two through die markers and other secondary characteristics even though the primary doubling description is similar. Provisional die markers UVC-???? and DMR-00? have not yet received their final unique variety code assignments, and the documented die stage at Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in Early to Mid Die State (EMDS), with Stages B and C at MDS and LDS unconfirmed. The 2021 Crossing the Delaware quarter reverse design by Emanuel Leutze features George Washington standing in a Durham boat during the pivotal Christmas 1776 river crossing, and the cuff area where the doubling appears sits at a transition between the sleeve and the hand gripping the boat's rail. Multiple doubled die varieties showing nearly identical descriptions on the same date and denomination is common when a systematic hubbing issue affects multiple die pairs produced during the same manufacturing run. The America the Beautiful program's final year generated considerable collector attention as enthusiasts rushed to document varieties before the series ended, and VDDR-007 contributes to that legacy. Attribution between VDDR-006 and VDDR-007 requires careful examination of secondary die markers — scratches, chips, or other non-doubling features — that uniquely identify each working die.
