Description

First in the VarietyVista doubled die reverse catalog for the 2021 America the Beautiful Quarter, this variety shows a medium spread toward the north appearing as an extra bottom edge of Washington's cuff on the final reverse design of the ATB series. Documented under die stage codes UVC-???? and DMR-00? (indicating the universal variety code and die marker reference were still pending formal assignment), the die progressed through three recognized stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B in mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The 2021 date marked the conclusion of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, which had run from 2010 through 2021, featuring reverse designs honoring national parks and sites in each state and territory. The final 2021 ATB reverse design — the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site quarter, designed by Donna Weaver — depicted a Tuskegee Airman pilot with a P-51 Mustang, and Washington's cuff detail on the figure provided a surface where hub misalignment during die production created visible doubling.
