Description

Light spread in a northeast direction manifesting as an extra bottom to Washington's cuff on the reverse of the 2021 America the Beautiful Quarter identifies VDDR-006, a doubled die reverse from the final year of the ATB program. VarietyVista provisionally assigns die markers UVC-???? and DMR-00? — the question marks indicating that full unique variety code numbers had not yet been assigned at the time of cataloging — and documents Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early to Mid Die State (EMDS), while Stages B and C at MDS and LDS remain unconfirmed. The doubling occurs specifically at Washington's cuff on the crossing of the Delaware reverse design by Emanuel Leutze, depicting the iconic Christmas 1776 crossing scene. The light northeast spread produces a subtle but detectable extra line below the normal cuff detail, visible under magnification. The 2021 ATB quarter marked the conclusion of the twelve-year America the Beautiful program that had featured national parks and historic sites since 2010, and the Crossing the Delaware design served as a bridge between ATB and the subsequent American Women quarter series beginning in 2022.
