2020 (P) Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

2020-P VI WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 2020-P Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve quarter (U.S. Virgin Islands) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. LIBERTY shows significant extra thickness, while USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST and the hair details show less, and the thickness weakens from left to right across the coin. There is also close separation on UNITED STATES OF, on LIBE in LIBERTY, on QUARTER DOLLAR and on the designer's initials JF; the separation is strongest on STATES. Obverse Stage A has a small gouge under the E in LIBERTY, toward its right side, and a small gouge in the O of DOLLAR at the upper right of its opening. Stage B shows a die break in the R of LIBERTY, in the upper opening. On the reverse, Stage A has a chip within the opening of RaM, the designer's initials, and the rightmost leaves show pre-die break depressions; Stage B is unchanged from Stage A. James Cassin submitted Stage A and Kemar Williams submitted Stage B. VarietyVista lists it as VDDO-002. Wexler notes that the photos printed for this variety in its monthly Coin World column actually showed a different variety that looks alike, 2019-P NMI WDDO-002; the photos on Wexler's own page are of the correct coin.
