Description

On this modern Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime, slight doubling appears on an olive leaf near PLURIBUS on the reverse, where hub misalignment during die production left a subtle secondary impression. John R. Sinnock's torch and olive branch reverse, in continuous production since the Roosevelt Dime's debut in 1946, provides the design canvas for this variety. The obverse carries distinctive die markers including die chips on the lip and nose of Roosevelt's portrait. On the reverse, a die crack extends across the bottom of the torch, the central reverse element. These progressive die deterioration markers help confirm the specific die pair when examining candidates. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2017-P 10¢ WDDR-004, this fourth documented DDR for the 2017 Philadelphia dime reflects the ongoing cataloging of modern clad Roosevelt Dime varieties. The 2017-P dime is a contemporary issue in the longest-running current U.S. coin design, and die varieties on modern dimes are less commonly documented than on cents, making each cataloged example noteworthy for the series.
