Following the exceptionally prolific 2016 catalog with its twenty-two DDR entries, the 2017 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime production yielded a more modest number of documented varieties. WDDR-002 is one of the early entries for this year, representing a working die that received a misaligned secondary hub impression during its manufacture. The contrast between years — some producing over twenty varieties and others only a handful — illustrates how variable the die production process can be from one period to the next. Factors such as equipment maintenance cycles, hub replacement schedules, and the total number of working dies produced all influence the likelihood and frequency of doubled dies in any given year. The Roosevelt Dime's reverse remains the same Sinnock torch-and-branches composition that has been used since 1946, providing continuity across the catalog.
