Description

Depicting the Great Blue Heron at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, the 2015 Quarter VDDR-014 presents medium spread east as extra blades of grass in the middle of the central grass strip. Cataloged with provisional designations UVC-???? and DMR-0?? indicating formal assignment is pending, three die stages have been documented. Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B remains an unconfirmed mid-die-state. Stage C, at late die state, is distinguished by a die break at the upper beak of the Great Blue Heron, with the obverse also at LDS. The heron beak die break at Stage C creates a visible disruption that is easy to spot even without magnification on well-preserved specimens. The grass-strip doubling, while requiring closer examination, affects a central design area that draws the eye naturally. Collectors should note the unassigned UVC and DMR codes, which may be updated in future VarietyVista catalog revisions.
