2015 (P) Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015

Description

In the Wexler doubled die reverse census for the 2015-P Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge Quarter, Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25¢ DE WDDR-015 records hub doubling on this Delaware-sited issue within the America the Beautiful Quarters program. The Bombay Hook Quarter's reverse, designed by Joel Iskowitz, depicts a great blue heron wading in the marshes of the Delaware Bay refuge — a naturalistic scene featuring the bird's long neck, legs, and surrounding wetland vegetation that provides organic, flowing reference lines where hub displacement generates characteristic secondary outlines. The "DE" state abbreviation in the Wexler ID identifies this as the Delaware park issue, distinguishing it within the 2015 program year that also included Homestead (NE), Kisatchie (LA), Blue Ridge Parkway (NC), and Saratoga (NY). Doubled die varieties for this issue are likely attributable to the design's fine detail and the large number of working dies required for Philadelphia Mint production. Struck in copper-nickel clad composition (75% copper / 25% nickel outer layers over a pure copper core) at 5.67 grams, the quarter's clad structure and striking characteristics can influence how hub doubling presents on finished coins compared to single-composition planchets. Collectors should examine the reverse under 7x to 10x magnification, focusing on the heron's anatomical outlines and the lettering, where even modest hub displacement creates visible parallel lines alongside the primary design edges.
