2015 (P) Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009

Description

An extra blade of grass between two wading birds — that specific diagnostic defines WDDR-009, a doubled die reverse on the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Delaware Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge America the Beautiful Quarter as attributed by the Wexler Team. The doubling manifests above the right side of the center grass strip between the great egret and the great blue heron. The ATB program, running from 2010 through 2021, featured 56 unique reverse designs depicting national parks and sites, each rendered with substantial naturalistic detail that provided numerous reference points for detecting hub doubling. Obverse die markers include a light die crack across the base of Washington's bust, while the reverse carries a die chip below the great blue heron's eye. The Bombay Hook design, depicting two wading birds in a marsh landscape, presented particularly fine botanical detail in its grass and marsh vegetation renderings — the kind of intricate design work where even minor hub misalignment becomes detectable to trained eyes. No additional cross-references to CONECA or Cherrypickers are currently known, establishing the Wexler attribution as the primary catalog entry. The botanical precision of the doubling diagnostic — an extra grass blade at a specific location relative to identified bird species — exemplifies how detailed modern ATB reverse designs have made hub doubling documentation on these quarters uncommonly specific compared to simpler coin designs.
