2015 (P) Saratoga National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

2015-P NY WDDR-006 is a doubled die reverse on the 2015-P Saratoga National Historical Park quarter (New York) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling sits within the lower right opening of the handle of General Burgoyne's sword. Obverse Stage A has NE/SW scratches under the ear. On Stage B those scratches are probably weak or worn away, and there is a gouge beside the top of QUARTER's first R on its left, plus a large gouge left of QUARTER's last R. On Stage C the Stage B gouges may or may not show, and die chips sit on both sides of the designer's initials. Reverse Stage A has many thin E/W scratches over Burgoyne's sleeve. Reverse Stage B keeps that marker and adds a large gouge between the H of BRITISH and the D of SURRENDER, and a gouge under the G of the designer's initials RG. On Reverse Stage C the Stage B markers may or may not show, and vertical scratches lie left of the top of the sword. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stages A and B, and Alfonso Lopez Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
