Description
Doubling shows inside the lower right opening in the handle of General Burgoyne’s sword.Die Markers: Obverse: LDS. Large die gouge at the neck right of the Y in LIBERTY. Reverse: Three large die gouges above Burgoyne's wrist. Die gouge left of the bottom of the S in SURRENDER. Multiple die gouges between the E and N in SURRENDER.Submitted By: George W. Powell, Jr.Cross References: None knownComments: This is a replacement listing. The original WDDR-007 was found to be machine doubling. Obverse Stage A: NE/SW die scratches below the ear. Obverse Stage B: Stage A die scratches likely weak or abraded away. Die gouge left of the top of the first R in QUARTER. Large die gouge left of the last R in QUARTER. Obverse Stage C: Stage B gouges may or may not be present. Die chips can be found to the left and to the right of the designer’s initials. Reverse Stage A: Many thin E/W die scratches above Burgoyne's sleeve. Reverse Stage B: Stage A die marker still present. Large die gouge between the H in BRITISH and the D in SURRENDER. Die gouge below the G in the designer's initials RG. Reverse Stage C: Stage B die markers may or may not be present. Vertical die scratches can be found to the left of the top of the sword.
