2015 (P) Saratoga National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

2015-P NY WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 2015-P Saratoga National Historical Park quarter (New York) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling sits within the lower right opening of the handle of General Burgoyne's sword. On the obverse, a cluster of gouges lies under the ear, and heavy NW/SE die flow lines sit left of IN GOD WE TRUST. Reverse markers: weak N/S scratches under Burgoyne's wrist; a large gouge within the sword guard; a large gouge over the frill of Burgoyne's sleeve; a pair of small gouges under Gates's thumb; a small gouge left of the doubling; a small gouge inside the lower opening of SURRENDER's S; and a small gouge between SURRENDER's S and U. Andrew Turnbull submitted the variety; the additional photos show a coin sent in by George W. Powell, Jr. CONECA lists it as 1-R-VIII.
