2013 (P) Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015

Description

2013-P MD WDDR-015 is a doubled die reverse on the 2013-P Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter (Maryland) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling appears on the left side of the wall standing left of the right window, on the roof north of that window, on the left side of the flag's lowest stripe, along the doorway's right and bottom sides, and slightly on the lower right spray of the fireworks. Both sides are a late die state (LDS). On the obverse, a gouge lies right of the first R in QUARTER and a small gouge under the ear. On the reverse, over the left roof and right of the firework spray that points S, there is a gouge; several gouges lie under the SE-pointing spray in the lower burst; and a gouge sits between the base of the NW-pointing spray in the upper burst. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-R-VIII. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing; the first WDDR-015 was lost before it was photographed. It resembles WDDR-006, and it matches WDDR-013 very closely, except that it has no doubling in the windows and the die markers differ. It may be a later die state of WDDR-013; Wexler says more examples are needed for study.
