2013 (P) Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-013

Description

2013-P MD WDDR-013 is a doubled die reverse on the 2013-P Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter (Maryland) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows at the base of the arch and within the windows above it; on the left side of the wall that stands left of the right window, and on the roof north of that window; on the left side of the flag's lowest stripe; along the doorway's right and bottom sides; and, slightly, on the lower right spray of the fireworks. Obverse markers: a gouge SW of the ear; one in the inner right corner of LIBERTY's T; small gouges over the right side of QUARTER's U and over QUARTER's E; a gouge to the right of the top of DOLLAR's first L; gouges right of UNITED's U and left of UNITED's I; and one touching the lower right side of STATES' A. Reverse markers: a long NW/SE gouge in the middle of the lower firework burst; several gouges in the center window over the arch; a gouge above the left roof; another gouge on the roof beside the wall carrying the Francis Scott Key plaque, left of the wall's top; and small gouges either side of the firework spray that points to the M in McHENRY. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments compare it with WDDR-006, which it resembles, and with WDDR-015, which it matches very closely except that this one has doubling in the windows and the die markers differ. It may be an earlier die state of WDDR-015; Wexler says more examples are needed for study.
