2013 (P) Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

2013-P MD WDDR-006 is a doubled die reverse on the 2013-P Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter (Maryland) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling appears on the left side of the wall that stands left of the right window, on the roof north of that window, on the left side of the flag's lowest stripe, along the doorway's right and bottom sides, and slightly on the lower right spray of the fireworks. Obverse Stage A has a small gouge to the right of the top of LIBERTY's L, a gouge between DOLLAR's O and L, one touching the inner right side of UNITED's D, and a small gouge right of OF's F. On Stage B the gouge in the D has worn away and the rest remain; added are a gouge beside the bottom of QUARTER's R on its left, a large gouge left of the lips, and gouges under LIBERTY's T and under WE's E. On Stage C the Stage B gouge left of the R is weak but still present and the other Stage B markers have worn away; new gouges sit over the left side of LIBERTY's R, between STATES' A and T, and (a second one) between the lower parts of DOLLAR's A and R. Reverse Stage A has thin E/W scratches across the central design and a gouge at the end of the spray that points to FORT's F. On Stage B the Stage A markers are weaker but still there, and a gouge appears over the far right roof where the doubling ends. On Stage C the spray-tip gouge has probably worn away, the other Stage B markers are probably weaker but still present, and a gouge sits over the spray pointing to McHENRY's HE. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stages A and B, and Mary Roth Stage C; the additional die markers come from a coin George W. Powell, Jr. sent in. CONECA lists it as 4-R-VIII. Wexler notes that it is very close to WDDR-015 but has weaker firework burst doubling and stronger doubling in the arch.
