2013 (P) Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005

Description

A doubled die reverse cataloged for a 2013 America the Beautiful quarter by VarietyVista, this variety exhibits a medium spread North in the lower arch floor and both right rooftops — design elements from a national park reverse design issued that year. Die markers UVC-2218 and DMR-006 identify the specific die pair, with Stage A showing both the reverse and obverse in early die state (EDS), and Stages B (MDS) and C (LDS) unconfirmed. The ATB quarter program (2010-2021) produced five unique reverse designs annually through 2020 (one in 2021), each honoring a national park, monument, or historic site, and the architectural details featured in many designs — arches, rooflines, structural elements — proved particularly productive for doubled die research. A medium North spread on architectural elements manifests as a vertical displacement where features appear to shift upward, creating shadow lines or extra edges above their intended positions. Modern clad quarter production at the Philadelphia Mint continues to generate detectable hubbing errors despite advanced manufacturing equipment. The lower arch floor and rooftop areas serve as reliable doubling indicators because their horizontal lines create strong visual contrast against any vertical hub displacement.
