Completing the quartet of 2012 Philadelphia Native American Dollar trail die varieties discovered by Jean Lee, this Position B trail die reverse documents the same reverse ghost image phenomenon on coins struck with the obverse die in the hammer (upper) position. Together with the Position A reverse, Position A obverse, and Position B obverse trail dies, Jean Lee's work established a catalog of trail die contamination across every combination of die face and press orientation for this issue. Position B coins are distinguished from Position A by the relationship between the obverse design and incused edge lettering — the text rotates 180 degrees between positions. Trail die reverses show faint remnant impressions on the horse-and-rider design by Thomas Cleveland, celebrating 17th-century trade networks between Native American nations and European colonists.
