2012 (P) Jefferson Nickel - P-5DER-003T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2012P-5DER-003T is a 2012 Philadelphia nickel reverse whose trails leave the left side of Monticello and the PLU of PLURIBUS and run at 270°, due west, toward the left rim. TrailDies writes the code as year plus mint letter, 5 for the coin, DER for an extension of the reverse design, file 003, then T. This coin, from the middle of the die's life, shows no obverse markers; its reverse has a small gouge between the U and S of PLURIBUS and another beside a window on the left of the building. Monika Stacy found it. Trails are thought to come mainly from a rotary buff polishing the die, though some argue for the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted.
• Reverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen in between the letters US of PLURIBUS. Another small die gouge is seen to the left of one of the windows in Monticello.
