2012 (P) Jefferson Nickel - P-5DER-001T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2012P-5DER-001T has strong trails across most of the design on the lower half of the reverse, all running at 010°, slightly east of due north, toward the top of the coin. TrailDies' code gives the 2012 date with the Philadelphia P, 5 for the five-cent denomination, and DER for the reverse, where the design extension sits; 001 is the file and T the type. The example is at stage B, mid-life for the die, with nothing noted on either side, so the reach and strength of the trails are the main means of identifying it. Rotary-buff polishing of the die is the usual explanation, and movement of the die against the hub the less common one.
